Two separate gangs of thugs specialized in the robbery of cars, motor bikes and counterfeit trafficking have been arrested in Bertoua, capital of the East Region by elements of the national Gendarmerie.

The first gang of 10 individuals apprehended by the forces of law and order was headed by a certain Ahmadou Abdulahi and engaged mostly in the robbery of motorbikes. Most of the seized bikes were sent to a receiver based in Douala who sold them and distributed the money.

At the time of their arrest, the group were in possession of two motorbikes and a large stock of household appliances.

The other gang which was led by a Loubou Ndam Michele, was mostly specialized in car theft. At the time of his arrest, he was in possession of a hilux vehicle which had been stolen from Yaoundé and the number plate changed.

He was intercepted along the Bertoua – Garoua Boulai axis, with counterfeit notes and false administrative documents.

The arrest of the robbers comes almost two weeks after a commercial bike rider was murdered in the town and his bike taken by unidentified individuals.
