The first-ever president of the regional council assembly for the North West region of Cameroon has established that no real development and job creation can take place in the region with continuous epileptic energy supply.
The medical doctor turned administrator, in the course of his installation and that of other regional councilors Friday, January 22nd, 2021, in Bamenda promised to seek alternative means of energy.
“We will generate electricity through bio compose and other waste,” Prof. Angwafor stated in a highly emotional speech delivered in the presence of officials and the population of Bamenda.
While delivering the speech, the message was interrupted several times following electricity failure.
The president of the regional council assembly shed tears on behalf of thousands of families in the region that have been affected by the four years old anglophone crisis.
“There are many mothers who do not know the whereabouts of their children. Women, mothers, children, and fathers are crying. God help us,” Prof. Angwafor stated.
To the governor of the North West Region, the regional council assembly should champion peace and the creation of wealth. Adolph Lele L’Afrique says the regional council should play a vital role to bring boys fighting in the bushes to town for a normal life.
Critics think the presence of appointed government officials that oversee activities of elected regional councilors automatically reduces their powers to initiate and execute development projects without prior approval from the central government.
