Elephants invade communities in Far North, cause huge material damage

The inhabitants of Kaikai and Kalfou, localities in the Mayo Danay division of the Far North, have witnessed huge material losses following the return of Elephants.

This comes 52 days after the last damage caused by the elephants, in these same localities.

“The elephants arrived around 1 am. Fortunately, since the last damage, we remained on alert. This allowed us to keep children and women out of harm,” explains a notable of the village

“We are overwhelmed by the attacks of these animals. We have the ability to kill these animals but they are protected by wildlife services. Let the authorities help us” pleaded a resident of Kalfou.

According to a farmer, the incident has plunged many families into disarray. He said, “Already with the heavy rains this year we had hoped to have a good harvest but unfortunately our crops were destroyed. This puts several families in misery.”

The elephants have taken up residence in these small villages and have created a corridor through the millet fields.

Although the populations have set fire to the whole bush to repel the Elephants, no change has been observed since yesterday.
