Elite One: Coton Sport narrowly beats OPOPO on match day 2

Victoria United, aka OPOPO, lost 0-1 to Coton Sport of Garoua on match day two of the ongoing MTN Elite 2 Championship.

Coton Sport enjoyed a home advantage in the tight match that took place at the Roumde Adjia stadium in Garoua today.

The Garoua boys had an early lead, scoring the game’s lone goal just 10 minutes into play. They continued to dominate OPOPO in the remaining segment of the first half, but missed a couple of goal scoring chances.

Victoria United emerged from half time with greater determination to score, but squandered all chances for a goal.

The Limbe-based club, which is one of the three Anglophone clubs at the Elite One, had a powerful entry into this year’s competition after beating Fauve Azur 2-1 on match day one.

Coton Sport, on the other hand, drew 0-0 with Stade Renard de Melong in its first encounter at the competition last week.

Today’s game reflected scores of a friendly encounter between OPOPO and Coton Sport in August, where the Limbe-based club suffered a 1-0 defeat.

Also today, Bamboutous of Mbouda emerged from their 1-0 loss to PWD of Bamenda last week to crush Gazelle FA of Garoua 2-0.

Meanwhile, Astres lost 2-3 to Dynamo.

Victoria United will be facing this year’s Cameroon Cup winner, Fovu of Baham in their next game, while Coton Sport will play Fauve Azur.

Monday will be a charged day for the Elite Two championship, as match day two rounds off.

PWD of Bamenda will take on Canon Sportive at the Ngoa Ekelle stadium in Yaounde at 6pm. The game will be preceded by an encounter between Union Sportive and Colombe of Dja and Lobo at the same venue.

Also, Stade Renard will face Fauve Azur at the Municipal Stadium of Mbouda at 3:30pm tomorrow.

Match Day Two scores as at Sunday were as follows:

— Apejes Vs YOSA 1-1
— Cotonsport Vs Victoria Utd 1-0
— Astres Vs Dynamo 2-3
— Avion Academy vs Fovu Baham 1-1
— Aigle Royal Vs AS Fortuna 0-1
