End of an Era: Rev. Dr. Fonki Samuel Foba’s Leadership Journey Celebrated

Several individuals have expressed sadness over the send-off of the moderator Rev. Dr. Fonki Samuel Foba, that took place on May 24th, 2024, at the Synod Office in Buea, South West region of Cameroon.

Mr. Marvin, the manager of the PCC Adolescence and Youth Friendly Centre, shared his reflections on the tenure of Rev. Dr. Fonki Samuel Foba, describing it as a significant learning experience.

“I work with the PCC Adolescence and Youth Friendly Centre, known as the Freemind Centre. I’ve been with the church for close to 13 years, and so far, his reign has been one of learning for those of us who’ve worked under him. His reign has been littered with a lot of crises—the COVID-19 pandemic and the Anglophone crisis that started in 2016. We’ve seen how the church has managed to sail through these crises because of his wonderful leadership.”

Marvin further elaborated on how the moderator has transformed the Presbyterian Church’s focus beyond just worship, steering it towards a more entrepreneurial approach.

“Rev. Dr. Fonki Samuel Foba is the moderator for the times we are in. To be able to keep the church alive during such crises, and to see that the church moves in the direction it is going, is no small feat. His leadership has been pivotal.”

Several pastors who have worked with the outgoing moderator also attested to his significant contributions.

“I may not have an eloquent way of describing Rev. Dr. Fonki Samuel Foba because we just worked together for about 4-5 years, but that’s not a small amount of time. I am glad to say he is the man to be celebrated today. From his achievements, both infrastructurally and spiritually, the church has grown under his leadership. He has been a father to everyone, full of compassion for pastors, always having their best interests at heart. Today, we come to bid him farewell and hope to see him involved in our activities and daily affairs as pastors of the PCC. It has been a favorable experience working under Rev. Dr. Fonki Samuel Foba,” expressed Charly Pek of Manyemen and parish pastor of HRC Congregation.

In his farewell message, Rev. Dr. Fonki Samuel Foba expressed hope that the church would soon be blessed with a new moderator chosen by God. “I leave you with the following intangible assets: our resilient faith, our enduring mindset, our crises-driven determination, and our Christian entrepreneurial spirit to sustain the church’s mission, compassion, and Diakonia work. Cheers to the memories we have shared and the adventures that await this church.”

The man who has served the church for several years has been applauded for his diligent service and the significant impact he has had on the lives of Christians.
