End of Year insecurity: Mobile Money agents targeted

28-year-old Eveline Mbatechah is receiving medical attention in a hospital in Douala. The lady was shot in the leg Monday, December 23 at a place called Entree Texaco at Douala 3.

Five armed men on board two motorcycles stormed her mobile money kiosk just when she had closed for the day and was heading to the main office to deposit money she made.

To a witness, “when they confronted Eveline demanding for the money, she attempted to refuse. This prompted one of the them to shoot her. It is at this stage that she let go of the bag containing the money”.

The armed men successfully made away with the money.

At New Bell Quarter at Douala 2, two suspected bandits have been beaten to death while another is in the hospital. The three boys attacked a woman in her mobile money kiosk to get money but unfortunately, boys in the roundabout intervened promptly.

People working in mobile money kiosks in Douala regret that companies operating such businesses do not provide security for them even during this period when bandits are targeting them to seize money.
