Equinoxe TV Director fires back at Governor over revolt, incitement accusations

The President Director General, PDG, of Equinoxe television, Severin Tchounkeu, has refuted claims by Littoral Governor , Samuel Ivaha Diboua that his TV station is inciting revolt in the country.

In a rare interview Monday evening on the programme Equinoxe Soir , Tchounkeu said he does not recognise the claims made by the Governor.

He added that Equinoxe Television strives towards ethical journalism and does not have any intention to incite a revolt in the country.

He was replying to a warning issued to him by the Litoral Region Governor, Samuel Ivaha Diboua on March 10, in which he said Equinoxe Television was “outrageously belligerent” in its editorial line.

In his rare press outing yesterday, Tchounkeu said the corespondence was done by Paul Atangana Nji, Minister of Territorial Administration, and the governor was just being used as a front to pass across the message.

The Governor in the document had said the television allowed a panelist on one of its programmes on Sunday, February 28 ( a date which does not exist on the 2022 calendar), to incite revolt by “outrightly” calling on parents and students to join the ongoing strike by some secondary school teachers in the country.

“When the threshold of the provocation reaches the intolerable, freedom of expression loses all meaning,” the Governor warned in the letter which was leaked to the media 10 days later.
