Family pleads for help as son remains ‘missing’ nearly a year after arrest

Family and friends of Tih Trevor Atsimbom, a resident of Muyuka in the South West region say he is no where to be found, months after his arrest.

“He was arrested in Muyuka in February 2020 with several other young people, but right up to now we don’t have information about his whereabouts” a source close to his family tells us.

The source adds that “those arrested along side with him were released 24hrs later. The mother and some family friends have gone to almost all the military barracks and police stations in Buea but they seem to know nothing about his location”.

“We don’t know if he is alive or dead” he adds.

Tih Trevor is one of several other young men that have gone ‘missing’ as a result of the prevailing armed conflict in the North West and South West regions of Cameroon.

Months back Njoka Kingsley Fomonyuy, a journalist was picked up from his Douala residence. He only resurfaced months later after pressure on government.

After finding him at the dreaded SED in Douala, his lawyer said he looked pale and was traumatized.

Other families, however, say they have not been ‘so lucky to find some of their loved ones picked up by the forces of law and order” in the context of the Anglophone crisis.
