Far North: Man chops off son’s hand after accusing him of theft

A man is reported to have chopped off the hands of his 10-year-old son in Hina, a locality in the Mayo-Tsanaga Division of the Far North Region of Cameroon.

Reports say he accused the boy of stealing the sum of 70, 000 francs CFA from the house.

“The child will be locked in a room for 30 days where he will suffer inhumane atrocities inflicted by his father,” a source narrated.

The child was reportedly beaten, tortured, and burned until his two hands completely disappeared.

Amateur video that MMI came across showed the 10-year-old’s hands burnt, but we cannot ascertain whether he is still alive.

The man in question was arrested by forces of law and order after neighbors discovered and reported the criminal act.

The incident adds to a plethora of domestic violence cases that occur in Cameroon, many of which go unnoticed.

In many of such cases, the oppressors usually bully the victims to remain silent.
