Far North Region: Boko Haram Kills Soldier, Injures Others In Violent Attack

At least one element of the Rapid Intervention Battalion, BIR, an elite unit of the Cameroonian army, has died in Zélévet in the Far North Region after a violent attack by Islamist militant group, Boko Haram.

The attack, which took place early Sunday morning has been confirmed by administrative authorities in the region.

Far North Governor Midjiyawa Bakari said, “soldiers who were patrolling near the border were ambushed by Boko in Zélévet in Moskota, in the Mayo Tsanaga Division.”

The latest attack on the defense forces is one of many that have been carried out by the Islamist group in the region.

A good number of villages and neighborhoods have been deserted by the locals, who have also complained of inadequate security provided in the region.

Since 2009, Boko Haram has killed more than 36,000 Cameroonians in the Far North Region, also forcing several hundreds of thousands more to displace.
