Far North Region: Maroua to Have Tomato Processing Factory

Plans have been unveiled by Cameroonian firm Sotreas -Société de Transformation des Produits d’élevage et d’agriculture du Sahel to open a tomato processing factory in the Far North Region capital Maroua.

This is contained in a Press Release published on February 7, 2022, by the Minister Delegate to the Minister of Environment Nana Aboubakar Djalloh.

According to the release, a public audience will be held in the framework of the detailed environmental and social impact study of this project would be held from February 7 to 12.

These audiences will aim to collect residents’ opinions on the possible implications of the factory to them.

Should the project meet social and environmental standards, then work will commence.

According to feasibility studies, it has been established that the proposed site will be the most suitable site for the factory.

It is believed to be just over 30km away from Meskine, Mogom, Yambarang, and Katoual, the most suitable regions for tomato farming.

With the essentials in place already, details such as the construction timeframe and volume of investment have not been disclosed yet.

Nevertheless, it is expected to add value to the local production of tomatoes in Cameroon.
