Far North Region: Rat Market Flourishing In Mayo Kani

Reports have emerged of a market for house rats in Mayo Kani, Far North Region of Cameroon.

According to sources, this market, known as Marché de Guidiguis, has been operating for a long time now, and is flourishing and attracting multitudes.

Reports say the rats sold in this market, are caught from houses and dried up before putting on sale for consumers.

However, the method of trapping these rats remains a major concern as poisoned rats are often mixed among others on sale.

Most of the rats are brought in from Kousseri, in the Logone and Chari Division. Locals say the market for rats has helped them eradicate the pests from within their homes.

The preference according to sources in this market is smaller dried rats, sold at 200frs for 5.
