Far North: Violent winds kill two, injure 12, destroy government buildings

Violent winds have killed two people and injured 12 in Beka, Faro Division of the Far North Region.

The rains, which were accompanied by winds last Friday, destroyed several state buildings, including the Divisional Office of ELECAM, the Beka Gendarmerie post, the border post of the Beka national security as well as classrooms of Government Bilingual High School Beka.

“It destroyed certain public buildings and i have assessed the damage to inform their various heirarchiyes. For some of the classrooms destroyed, we will look at other places to accommodate them,” said the Senior Divisional Officer of Faro, Babila Akaou.

The wind prompted outcry in Beka and left people saddened.

Religious leaders gathered after the disaster to pray for the Division and for the Division.
