Farmers In Mbonge Request Government Intervention As Stray Elephants Destroy Crops

Local farmers of the Bomana village, in the Mbonge Subdivision of the South West Region of Cameroon, have pleaded on the state to intervene as wild elephants have once more destroyed their crops in their farms.

Farmers in this area say it has been a recurrent issue they have had to deal with several times in the past. The elephants according to revelations from the farmers “now come right into the village to about 100 meters from domestic homes.”

In their latest entry into the village, the animals destroyed many crops such as plantain, banana, cocoyams, cocoa, mangoes, and several other fruit types.

The villagers also say that they might soon be struck with famine after the latest invasion by the elephants if competent authorities do nothing about the situation. “We wish to make it known to the authorities concerned to do something about it because we are suffering, ” a villager lamented.
