Road accident in Cameroon
A deadly road accident resulting from a collision between a logging truck and a passenger bus belonging to Galaxie Voyages has claimed several lives near Kombé.
Eyewitnesses report around 20 fatalities, though officials are yet to confirm the exact number.
Locals rushed to help but were unable to save many due to the severity of the crash.
According to witnesses, the accident took place around 8 a.m., near the dangerous curve at Nnemeyong. The impact between the two vehicles was extremely violent, leaving the Coaster completely crushed. Local residents rushed to the scene to provide first aid to the victims, but due to a lack of proper resources, many could not be saved. “Some victims died in front of us,” lamented one witness, highlighting the urgent need for better access to emergency services in high-risk areas.
This disaster comes just as the country is still recovering from another fatal accident that occurred in early September in western Cameroon. On that occasion, a truck carrying passengers plunged into a ravine following a malfunction, killing 8 and injuring 62. That accident happened around 3 a.m., according to state radio CRTV.
Road accidents have become a major concern in Cameroon, particularly on routes known for their danger. The curve at Nnemeyong, where this morning’s accident occurred, is infamous among drivers for its treacherous conditions. This latest tragedy has reignited the debate over road safety in the country and the need to strengthen preventive measures to reduce the number of accidents, especially in high-risk areas.
