Father arrested for killing Four children and their mother on Christmas day

Meaux, France, December 26, 2023 – A harrowing incident unfolded in the quiet town of Meaux, located 40 km (25 miles) northeast of Paris, as a man was arrested on Tuesday, suspected of brutally murdering his wife and four children in a knife attack on Christmas Day. The disturbing discovery was made on Monday night, when their lifeless bodies were found in a blood-stained apartment.

Local prosecutor Jean-Baptiste Bladier revealed that the mother and two daughters had sustained multiple stab wounds, making it impossible to determine the exact number of blows. Shockingly, the family’s two younger sons appeared to have been either suffocated or drowned.

Authorities took the 33-year-old father into custody at his residence in a nearby town on Monday night, marking the beginning of a murder investigation. The victims, tragically aged between 9 months and 10 years, left the community in shock and mourning.

Neighbours reported hearing screams during the early hours of Christmas Day, prompting concerns. Later in the day, they raised the alarm after failing to get any response from the family.

The prosecutor revealed that the husband had a history of mental illness, having assaulted his wife with a knife in 2019. Despite the severity of the incident, charges were not pressed, and the case was dropped due to the husband’s mental health at the time.

Medical documents and prescriptions for anti-depressants were discovered in the family’s residence, shedding light on the challenges they may have faced. The investigation into this heartbreaking incident continues as the community grapples with the profound loss and seeks answers to this shocking crime that occurred on what should have been a day of joy and celebration.
