FECAFOOT annouces resumption of football championship

The football blackout in Cameroon just like in many other parts of Africa and the world will soon end as the president of FECAFOOT, Seidou Mbombo Njoya has announced that the major division one football championship will get underway from September 26, 2020.

However, the president has insisted that the only factor to determine how successful or not the football season begins by the set date is the evolution of the corona virus pandemic in the country.

“The FECAFOT plans from the end of September 2020, precisely 26th, for the resumption of competitions, unless the current situation worsens…” he précised.
Cameroon as the host nation for the upcoming African Nation’s Championship (CHAN) in January 2021 and in order for the chances of the host team not to have their chances limited, it will be beneficiary for the national championship to begin before the tournament so as to have the players warmed.

“…As you can imagine, this is equally aimed as a warm up for all the local players who will partake in the CHAN 2021. As a result of the current world health crisis, the competition will be organised behind closed doors” he equally noted in his interview with the ‘Le Jour’ daily newspaper.

It should be noted that all sporting activities in Cameroon were suspended in the month of March when the corona virus pandemic was in its early stages as a preventive method to limit the spread of the virus. The league was later prematurely ended. Other major footballing tournaments like the CHAN 2020, AFCON 2021 and the CAF Champions League final were all suspended for later dates already established.
