Against all odds, Samuel Eto’o Fils has beaten Seidou Mbombo Njoya and is the new President of the Cameroon Football Federation.
The elective General Assembly was characterized by major disagreements between the candidates and the electoral college. Samuel Eto’o Fils from the start had opposed the single ballot system, which he claimed were machinations to deter the voters.
Amidst the tense atmosphere in the room, the vote however ensued live on TV platforms with the single ballot.
74 delegates out of the total 76 expected delegates participated in the voting process, with Samuel Eto’o Fils racking up a comfortable 43 votes to himself, and Seidou Mbombo Njoya 31.
Samuel Eto’o Fils hence becomes the new President of FECAFOOT, and Cameroonians will be keen for Eto’o to fulfill his campaign promises.
“I’ll be remembering today as one of the proudest moments of my life. I’m deeply grateful to be elected as the new president of Fecafoot,” said Samuel Eto’o shortly after his victory. “Every single vote represents the energy and ambition of our football family to take our beloved sport to a level we’ve never seen before. Let’s get to work.”
