FECAFOOT suspends MTN Elite One to resolve pertinent issues

The Cameroon football federation (FECAFOOT) has suspended the MTN Elite One Championship for the next 10 days in order to address vital issues facing the tournament.

One of the main issues the Federation seeks to resolve is conflict over the use of match venues, state-owned newspaper, Cameroon Insider, has reported.

The championship that was about to enter the sixth day of play will only resume on November 5.

A message posted on the official Facebook page of the MTN Elite One said that the championship was taking a 10-day break.

“Time for us to have a short 10-day break to re-energize and improve in goals, cages, wins and trophies,” the message read.

Nineteen clubs have been participating in the championship since it kicked off on September 27.

So far, the best performing teams at the end of match day five are Dynamo FC (Group A) and Stade Renard (Group B) with 10 points each.

UMS of Loum and YOSA of Bamenda occupy the bottom positions in Group B with 2 points each.

In Group A, AS Fortuna and Aigle Royal come last with 5 points and 2 points respectively.

With just three points, Victoria United is the fourth least performing team at the tournament at the end of match day five.

The Limbe-based club is reported to have opted out of the championship after boycotting its home game against Apejes of Mfou last Saturday.

The club is also wrapped up in a match-fixing scandal involving FECAFOOT’s president Samuel Eto’o.

Both Eto’o, who is currently under police investigation, and the club president, Nkwain Valentine, have denied the match-fixing claims.
