Fight Against COVID-19: Government sets sight on National Vaccination Campaign

With over 25,000 positive cases tested in Cameroon as of now, the Minister of Public Health, Dr. Manaouda Malachie during an exclusive interview on national Media, CRTV hinted that the government may opt for the option which other countries are leaning towards, that of organizing a massive and mandatory vaccination campaign against the Covid19 pandemic.

Minister Manaouda Malachie revealed that the fight against the pandemic in the country has already taken up close to 34 Billion FCFA from the government coffers, also stating that one of the best means of limiting further expenditure is by seeking for a preventive measure for all Cameroonians, hence the need for the vaccines.

Though the decision on an eventual launch of a grand vaccination has not been decided yet, Minister Manaouda Malachie says that the Prime Minister Chief Dr Joseph Dion Ngute has instructed that reflections towards that line of thought be made to mitigate the impact of COVID-19.

As of now, Minister Manaouda Malachie has revealed that the only thing holding the campaign back is the approval of the Head of State. The decision of how the campaign will go about, Where it will be held, Who to be vaccinated and for how long, Are already being thought of at the level of the Public Health Ministry.

Though a massive vaccination campaign has not been particularly popular amongst Africans, Cameroon in case of adoption will not be the first African country to take the decision for a massive campaign.

The Kingdom of Morocco has equally put up plans to launch a massive vaccination campaign by the end of the year, of which they plan to vaccinate at least 20 million youths within a 3-year period.
