Fighting COVID-19: “I don’t trust imported vaccines” – Dr. Richard Fru

Government starts the process of consultation of experts in the field of medicine in Cameroon on the possibility of introducing a COVID-19 vaccine.

Following a release from the ministry of public health Tuesday, March 16th, 2021, the minister of public will from March 17th meet with “… professional orders, members of the learned societies and traditional medicine stakeholders “.

Ahead of the meetings, Dr. Richard Fru has expressed pessimism on vaccines brought into the country. The traditional doctor says, “…I don’t trust any vaccine imported. We have schools in Cameroon that are graduating researchers every year. If we cannot produce a vaccine for Cameroonians as other countries are doing, then it’s a waste,” he told Mimi Mefo Info on phone on March 17.

The traditional doctor proposes that government should accord confidence and resources for traditional doctors to produce “… if necessary …” a treatment against COVID-19.

Dr. Fru posits that the government’s persistent push for an imported vaccine to be administered to Cameroonians is motivated by other reasons and not to prevent Cameroonians from the coronavirus pandemic.

“A lot of money and politics is involved in the vaccination issue that is why the importation of COVID-19 vaccine is a priority for the government,” he said.

In 2020, Dr. Fru Richard produced medicines he testifies treat COVID-19. Since then, the government has not issued any official statement on the traditional medicine produced by Dr. Fru to treat COVID-19.

He regrets that the government is not consulting prominent traditional doctors that have been making contributions in researching and proposing medicine to treat COVID-19.
