Fon of Nso released but not free

Fon Sehm Mbinglo earlier today was in the care of administrative authorities in Ngoketunjia division, North West region.
He was set free hours ago by separatist fighters that had held him captive for five days.

While Nso natives worldwide celebrate his release, their joy is yet to be complete as his captors gave him a series of conditions that have left the ruler in a tight spot.

“He is going to hands off completely from anything that has to do with politics and French Cameroon. In this regard, the Fon of Nso is going to send a resignation letter to the people of Ambazonia resigning from being a candidate in the said regional elections,” the separatist fighters stated in an audio message making rounds on social media.

In addition to asking that the ruler quits politics for good, the Ambazonia forces made other demands that are proving hard to fulfill.

Among them was that the fon should send a direct message to the president of the Republic calling on him to release all arrested in connection with the Anglophone crisis, and negotiate with them.

Only upon fulfilment of these conditions they stated, would they allow the fon to return home at a time they decide.

“The Bui warriors shall be joining the Nso population with open hands to receive his majesty back home come this appropriate moment,” they noted.

The add that “upon re-offending the people of Ambazonia, the fon shall be rearrested and penalised by the restoration forces accordingly.”

Noting that the move was done with the ruler’s consent, the fighters said “the fon agreed to work as an untainted uncorrupted traditional authority for the Nso people, following the footsteps of his own father so as to regain the lost glory for the Nso people and repair his own damages integrity.”

While many have condemned the humiliation one of the most respected traditional rulers of the North West region has been made to go through, many of his subjects are of the opinion that he steers clear from politics.

Following the fon’s release, another standoff is said to have ensured between him and the forces of law and order that insisted on taking him back to Kumbo.

Reports say the military blocked the Fon’s convoy heading back to Bamenda but he insisted he won’t go to Nso now as it wasn’t conducive for him to go to Kumbo. He and his convoy were later allowed to return to Bamenda.

The fon was abducted five days ago as he returned home accompanied by Christian Cardinal Tumi who was later set free.

The fon had made several months out of his home after he was abducted and released a day later in his native Kumbo.
