Football World in turmoil as creation of new league threatens disintegration of existing leagues

Since last night, the official announcement of a new league dubbed “The European Super League” has created a feud amongst European Footballing Associations which could see European Football basically crumble to the floor.

The agreement of the creation of the European Super League was arrived at by 12 of the biggest clubs in Europe including Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atletico de Madrid, Manchester United, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Juventus, Inter-Milan and Ac Milan.

The creation of the European Super League was so that it could stand as a stiff competitor to the present day Champions League. The clubs involved in the league have also stated that due to the impacts of the coronavirus, the league could generate a lot of income for participating teams given how financially hit most of these clubs were with the arrival of the Coronavirus.

The European Football Association (UEFA) and the FIFA have condemned the creation of this league in very strong terms, stating that it was a move by rich and greedy clubs to plunder the beautiful game of football into money making ventures at the detriment of the lesser ones.

In addition, UEFA and FIFA have also threatened that any team participating in the European Super League will be completely banned from participating in any other competition organized by UEFA and would equally be removed from their domestic leagues as a result.

FIFA also added that all players participating in the league may also be denied the opportunity to represent their countries if the league is not dissolved as soon as possible.

However, the major stakeholders of the league have made light the words of the UEFA and FIFA with an official announcement, leaving football lovers in major suspense as to what the reaction from other Footballing Associations will look like.

There are talks already that the move might see the ongoing Champions League scuppered as three of the four semi-finalists are major stakeholders of the European Super League.

However, UEFA hasn’t confirmed it but all options remain open. Three more clubs are expected to join the European Super League and the competition be kick-started as soon as possible.
