Former Liberian President and Nobel Peace Prize Winner, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has said, women and girls have a key role to play in finding a solution to the Anglophone crisis.
The diplomat who was Africa’s first-ever female Head of State took to social media platform, Twitter to bemoan the treatment accorded females in light of the armed conflict.
“Women & girls have been heavily affected by the Cameroon conflict as their voices must be heard if a solution is to be found,” she stated. “Conflict resolution in Cameroon,” she said, “requires the experiences, perspectives, and voices of women.”
“I have witnessed first-hand how women’s empowerment can move a country toward reconciliation. Their inclusion is critical to the success of all peace-building efforts,” she added.
Ellen Johnson it should be recalled was President of onetime conflict-stricken Liberia.
She was 24th President of Liberia. she served from 2006 to 2018. Her call for inclusion of women in the quest for a solution to the armed conflict is one of similar calls from multiple persons and institutions of repute across the world.
