Former Social Democratic Front MP, Nintcheu launches own party

Honourable Jean-Michel Nintcheu, former regional leader of the Social Democratic Front (SDF), has launched a new political party.

Known under the name “Front for Change in Cameroon” (FCC), the party was formerly known as “Rassemblement pour la Patrie”. The party aims to address issues plaguing the country, such as corruption, poverty, and injustice.

The launch of the political party comes eight months after he was expelled from the SDF, alongside 32 senior members of the party who sued the chairman and founder, Ni John Fru Ndi, for allegedly violating the constitution.

The dismissal, which came at the party’s national executive committee meeting in Yaounde on February 25, was in reference to Article 8.2 of the party’s constitution, which charges them of promoting anti-party activities.

Prior to their dismissal, the 32 party bigwigs had earlier met in Mbouda, West Region, where they resolved to file a case at the Mfou Magistrates Court against the Chairman, Ni John Fru Ndi, and the Secretary-General, Barrister Djomgang Adeline, calling on them to annul certain decisions taken last year.

They later withdrew the case from court before refiling on February 10.

Following his dismissal from the SDF, the Honourable Jean Michel Nintcheu asked the National Assembly in Cameroon to stop disbursing part of his salary into the party’s accounts.

The launch of his party comes at a time when his former political party is bracing to elect a new national leader following the recent death of its pioneer leader, Ni John Fru Ndi.

Ni John Fru Ndi, Cameroon’s opposition leader and chairman of the SDF, died on June 12, 2023, following a protracted illness.

Nintcheu joined the SDF in 1996 following the merger of his party, the Rassemblement pour la Patrie (Rap), with the SDF.

Before his dismissal from the party, he was the SDF Member of Parliament for Wouri East Constituency.
