Tamnjong Divine, a fugitive suspected of setting a woman on fire in Bamenda, arrested
Tamnjong Divine, a fugitive suspected of setting a woman on fire in Bamenda, the capital of Cameroon’s North West region, has been arrested by officers of the national gendarmerie in Ndu. Divine was apprehended just days after fleeing Bamenda following the horrific act.
Local media reports indicate that Divine set Ngoran Anifatou, a mother of two, on fire after a dispute over a piece of farmland that belonged to neither of them. The incident occurred in Mile 6 Nkwen, Bamenda, on Friday, August 30.
According to reports, Divine purchased five liters of fuel and went to Ngoran’s home while she was in the kitchen with her two children. Without warning, he doused her with the fuel and set her on fire.
As Ngoran’s children screamed for help, she too cried out in agony. Although local residents intervened, Divine managed to escape, leaving Ngoran critically burned. She was rushed to the hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Divine’s whereabouts remained unknown until his recent capture by gendarmerie forces in Ndu. He has since been transferred to Bamenda, where he is being held at the gendarmerie brigade in Mile 4 Nkwen for further investigation and prosecution.
