Fundong: Disability excludes family of three

The feel of the hustle and bustle of daily life in Fundong town, the chief town of Boyo Division, has now become a dream that might never come true to Mubang Eveline Kou and her daughter, Mubang Blessing.

Confined at home now for close to three years, the family says they have been abandoned by neighbors, the community, and the government and they only depend on fate to decide on their living.

Mubang Eveline Kou, aged 49, is a mother of one, married to Ngong Emmanuel. She lives in Fundong, Boyo Division of Cameroon.

Mubang Eveline has grown up with a mobility impairment that got critical in 2006 and since then, she has been using crutches to cope until 2019 when she felt weak and crutches were not a solution anymore.

Mubang Eveline told MMI that since March 2019 till now she has been indoors and has not seen the roadside coupled with the bad road that links her home. She says, she used to manage and move with her wheelchair but can’t use it again.

The narrow road leading to her house has a plank bridge that can’t permit her to use the wheelchair again coupled with her pains.

To make things worse, her only child, Mubang Blessing Bemsimbom who is 13 years old has been growing up with a similar condition to that of her mother which got worse in 2019 that she couldn’t manage to walk as before. Blessing has joined the mother, staying indoors with her mom since then.

Mubang Blessing Bemsimbom has attended primary 1 and 2 but due to her condition, she couldn’t continue. Eveline’s husband 68yrs who could have been there to help out is suffering from a stroke for 6 years now. He can’t walk nor talk.
Little Mubang Blessing Bemsimbom says she feels cut off from the world especially with the crisis “most of my friends ran away because of the crises to study in other places so I have not seen or heard from my friends for a very long time. I really feel bad not being able to associate with others. I had the dream of one day becoming a computer engineer but because of my condition, I have forgotten about it because I think I can’t go far” she said.

The family is in urgent need of help especially little Blessing who is supposed to go to school like her peers but can’t due to her condition.
there is a disability center in Fundong and has asked Mubang Blessing Bemsimbom to go to any school in the division and they pay her school fees and offer that can’t help her t the moment.
