Generals Elokobi, Louba Zal Take Charge of Top Gendarmerie Posts

The newly appointed Inspector General of the National Gendarmerie, Major General Daniel Njock Elokobi, and the Central Director of Coordination, Brigadier General Pierre Louba Zal, have taken charge following their installation.

They were officially installed on Wednesday, August 27, at the State Secretariat of Defense for the National Gendarmerie (SED) in Yaounde.

The Secretary of State to the Minister of Defense, in charge of the National Gendarmerie, Galax Etoga, chaired the event, which came weeks after newly-promoted Major General Elokobi received his three-star epaulette from the Minister of Defence.

The appointees were urged to contribute their expertise to help the Gendarmerie force manage security challenges in the country.

As a paramilitary force, the National Gendarmerie plays a key role in defence and ensuring law and order in Cameroon.

The officials’ installation came less than two months to presidential election, where the force is expected to play a crucial role in ensuring peace and order.

According to the statement from the Defence Ministry, Galax Etoga informed Brigadier General Louba Zal that he is undeniably up to his responsibilities, as his professional background, strength of character, and leadership are appreciated by heirarchy.

Meanwhile, Major General Elokobi, known for his immense expertise, intellectual abilities, and in-depth knowledge of military customs and traditions, was charged to provide precise and objective analyses and reports on how the National Gendarmerie carries out its missions and on the evaluation of its performance.

He will also make proposals to further strengthen the National Gendarmerie’s security system and ensure deployments comply with the Corps’ employment doctrine.
