George Ewane’s colleague urges him to step up, uphold courageous reporting

CRTV’s Kihkishiy Lawrence has addressed the latest report done by his colleague, George Ewane.

The former Unity Palace correspondent (Ewane) had for several weeks now been trending among government officials for lavishing why some say are undue praises on the head of state.

According to Kihkishiy Lawrence, George Ewane broke the cycle in a recent report, ‘putting it as it should be’.

In an open letter addressed to the editorialist, Lawrence said Ewane’s Sunday morning piece on CRTV, Cameroon Calling, showed a different side of him.

“It was unlike the man I thought I knew, the anchorperson of ‘Inside Etoudi’. I heard you put it as it should be, namely, that the disorder in the Cameroon house is beyond understanding. That no sector is in order, from civil servants through the policemen to football managers, the barbarism in the North West and South West Regions,” he wrote.

“My sixth sense told me that you raised your hands in despair, calling God in capital letters to come to our aid. Yes, I said, this cannot be George this Sunday morning, George whom I had earlier caged to be a fervent supporter of the same system that he is painting so black today. So frank, not falling in the trap of failed wolves fanning division among Anglophones,” Kihkishiy furthered.

The piece, he stated, brought him to the realization that “… the song, that melody of doom, started 30 long years by the SDF, yes, that the song is still echoing in our minds. I then saw that you can fool all the people, but never all the people all the time”.

“George, part two of your paper is lying on your desk. Please bring it back anytime. The part that defines responsibility and the way forward. You matter in this place, and the courage should not wither. Tell us who should set the records straight, then your job, that unfinished business, would have made meaning,” he urged.

In the said report, George Ewane addressed what he called a “laisser aler” and “laisser faire” in the system that left questions about the “sanctitiy of human behaviours”.

The time, he added, was ripe for culprits and criminals to be silenced and brought to book.

Among utterances George Ewane has been shamed for especially on social media, is his comparing long-serving President Paul Biya to football’s Lionel Messi and biblical Christ Jesus.

Many also chided him after he appeared on national TV to defend the head of state’s actions, using local parlance to refer to him as a president who keeps his words.
