“Good Governance is necessary for peace in Cameroon” – Patricia Scotland, Commonwealth Scribe

The Secretary General of the Commonwealth has stated that good governance and the respect of human rights are some of the cardinal ingredients needed for peace to reign in Cameroon.
Patricia Scotland was speaking to reporters in Yaounde Wednesday, November 27, 2019 after an audience with President Paul Biya.

To the Secretary General, the Commonwealth has core values that when respected in a country, the probability of chaos is minimised.
While appreciating efforts made so far by the government to resolve the Anglophone Crisis, Patricia Scotland says there is the need for an inclusive dialogue “as a beginning for the process of peace in Cameroon”.

The Chief Scribe of the Commonwealth says representatives of Commonwealth, La Francophone and African Union presently in Cameroon will hold talks with leaders of opposition political parties, the civil society and other influential personalities before the end of their 48-hour visit to Cameroon.

To Patricia Scotland who is visiting Cameroon for the second time insists “there is alot of work to do in Cameroon for peace”.

On the other hand, President Paul Biya is quoted to have mentioned the recent announcement for the recruitment of 500 translators and interpreters within five years and the endorsement of Special Status for the North West and South West Regions as measures taken after the holding of the Major National Dialogue.

Note worthy is the fact that the Secretary General of the Commonwealth Patricia Scotland, that of La Francophonie Louise Mushikiwabo and the Chairman of the African Union Commission Musa Faki Mahamat are in Cameroon to contribute their quota towards peace in the country.
