Government to rehabilitate Bertoua, Tiko and Kribi airports

The government of Cameroon has announced plans to rehabilitate the Bertoua, Tiko and Kribi airports.

The information was disclosed in a note signed by the Minister of Transport, Bibehe Jean Ernest, on August 30, 2022.

The release indicates that the, “President of the Republic, H.E Paul BIYA has called for the development and rehabilitation of the Bertoua. Kribi and Tiko airports.”

“In this light, the Head of State has instructed the Civil Aviation Authority, under the guidance of the Ministry of Transport. technical supervisor, to ensure the Supervision of works planned and to ensure without delay, the signing of contracts with the selected companies in order for effective work to begin within the shortest possible time on the various sites, ” he added.

The construction of these infrastructures will, according to the Transport minister, “enable each Region to have at least one functional aviation platform and be able to benefit from air transport services,” and equally offer,” a better attractiveness and a greater opening of the domestic market to competition.”

The rehabilitation, according to Minister Bibehe, began before the hosting of the 2021 African Cup of Nations, which took place earlier this year.

Many however have expressed doubts it may just be another white elephant project or will crumble subsequently like many others.
