Gov’t reveals malaria is leading killer disease in Cameroon

How to effectively tackle malaria in Cameroon in the next three years is currently preoccupying the government of Cameroon.

The minister of public health in a press conference in Yaounde Friday April 24th said close to 280 billion francs cfa is needed for a veritable three years malaria repost plan to run from 2020 to 2023.

From 14% malaria mortality in Cameroon in 2018,the figure jumped to 18.3% in 2019.

This shows that at least 11, 000 people die in Cameroon each year as a result of Malaria.

Statistics equally show that 60% of the deaths are children below the age of five.

On the issue of what is partly responsible, Dr.Dorothy Achu, coordinator of the national program for the fight against malaria in Cameroon mentioned to L’Oiel du Sahel newspaper that insufficient treated mosquito nets in homes in Cameroon is a cause for concern.

World day for the fight against malaria is observed today April 25th 2020 on the theme “Zero Malaria” with an estimated six million infected cases in Cameroon.
Experts say malaria remains more deadly than coronavirus pandemic yet Cameroonians have not taken preventive measures like high level of personal and environmental hygiene seriously.
