Gov’t upgrades Bamenda Regional Hospital with modern scanner

By Tata Mbunwe

Government has through the Ministry of Public Health, upgraded the capacity of the Bamenda Regional Hospital through the provision of a modern scanner. The equipment was installed at the health facioity Friday February 25 by the Minister of Public Health Dr Manouada Malachi. The move has been seen by several patients as coming to reduce the cost of traveling outside the region for medical attention.

The equipment is launched at the Medical Imagery Department of the regional hospital. The hospital is having such an equipment for the first time. Previously, patients in Bamenda and elsewhere in the North West region could only do medical imagery or scanning in Bafoussam in the neighbouring West region.

Minister Manaouda also inaugurated a newly renovated hemodialysis center which he equipped with eight new generators. It is expected to serve dozens of kidney patients who have protested in the past over limited equipment. He as well inaugurated a regional emergency centre and an isolation unit for COVID-19 patients.

The innovation at the Bamenda hemodialysis centre is expected to serve scores of patients who have usually scrambled in the past for dialysis amid insufficient equipment. In Bamenda, regional authorities who accompanied the Yaounde delegation at the installation ceremony applauded the government’s move, stating it was a timely response to the population’s need.

The Minister announced that government will also be installing a panoramic dental device and a mammogram at the hospital between April and June this year, and will construct new bathrooms for the hospital’s patients.

Minister Manouada and his delegation were welcomed by North West governor, Adolphe Lele L’Afrique, alongside traditional rulers, municipal authorities and religious leaders. North West Fons dressed the Minister in the famous traditional attire, Toghu, and named him “Ntu bone”, meaning apostle of peace in the Mankon language.
