Guinness World Records encourages more Africans to break and set records

More Africans, led by the example set by Nigerians, are being encouraged by Guinness World Records (GWR) to attempt record-breaking feats.

The caveat is that everyone involved needs to sign up and play by the rules initially.

We noted in May that after chef Hilda Baci’s four-day cook-a-thon was recognized by GWR, record-breaking became something of a fad in Nigeria.

The official records organization has now put a number on the trend.

According to BBC Focus on Africa, since Chef Hilda made the news, GWR has received 1,572 applications from Nigerians interested in attempting world records.

People have been crying constantly, getting massages constantly, and frying massive quantities of snails, among other things, in an effort to be noticed.

“I really like it when people are passionate about record-breaking,” Mr. Glenday added.

More Africans breaking records is something we should all strive for.

However, he clarified that GWR requires advance notice to evaluate the record attempt for measurability and establish ground rules.
