Gun Violence Claims Another Life in Bamenda

By Njoh Linda

Fear gripped residents in parts of Bamenda on Sunday night, December 21, 2025, following a series of gun-related incidents reported in different neighbourhoods, including Bambili.

One of the victims has been identified as Emmanuel Nganya, who was shot around Joan of Arc Nursery and Primary School in Ntarinkon.

According to information gathered by MMI, Nganya was attacked by unknown gunmen while accompanying his cousin and uncle to Mulang after they paid him a visit.

It remains unclear whether the shooting was targeted or random. Nganya was reportedly the only person shot, while his cousin and uncle lost consciousness during the incident. Their current condition remains uncertain as of the time of reporting.

Human rights observers say the incident once again highlights the growing threat to civilian safety in conflict-affected towns in Cameroon’s North West Region.

The repeated use of firearms on unarmed civilains violates the fundamental right to life and security, protected under both Cameroonian law and international human rights instruments.

Sunday’s violence, which extended beyond Bamenda to Bambili, underscores a troubling pattern of insecurity that continues to expose ordinary civilians to grave danger.
