Gunmen abduct eight persons in Alou, Lebialem

Alleged separatist fighters have taken hostage some eight persons in Mbelenka, M’muock Fosimondi, a village in Alou subdivision, Lebialem Division, South West region of Cameroon.

“The boys came up from the forest last night to attack the military but upon arrival by past 3 a.m. they noticed that people were in bars drinking and they got angry and left with them,” Mimi Mefo Info is informed.

Our source adds that “among the hostages is a man and his daughter. The man arrived home and did not see his daughter and went back to look for her. Unfortunately he was taken away with her by the boys.”

The suspected separatist fighters, he adds, “belong to the group of Comando Ayeke.”

Taking people hostage for ransom has increasingly become common in Cameroon’s Anglophone regions where separatist fighters are clamouring for a separate state called Ambazonia.

While no faction has claimed responsibility for last night’s action, the recent act in Alou is believed to be one of several acts by fighters in the region.

In the past, some persons have been tortured and others killed in their captivity.
