Health Minister says Kamto would have presented himself individually before making donation for COVID-19 fight

The Cameroon government has received millions in aid to fight the coronavirus since the first case of the virus was noticed in the country.

Days ago, controversy however arose after the Survie-Cameroon-Survival-Initiative (SCSI) said government had refuse to receive their own aid. Health Minister, Manaouda Malachie however denies ever refusing the aid from Prof Maurice Kamto, leader of the CRM political party.

“We did not refuse, but we simply asked him to take the gifts to the Ministry of Territorial Administration” the Minister said.

Kamto he adds “would have presented himself individually before his gift could have been taken without problem. We need it. However, just because we are in an epidemic does not mean that we have to put our rules aside.”

The bone of contention Minister Manaouda explains is the fact that the gifts were brought under the banner of the SCSI tagged illegal by the government.

“The door is open but everything must be done within the legal framework. Those who want to help us, must work within the framework of the structures put in place by the Government” he notes. When they trample the law, they will be hit”.

The MRC leader’s donation comprised of thousands of protective equipment and medical kits for health workers and others.

Cameroon has close to 2,000 COVID-19 cases and has recorded close to a thousand recoveries.
