Hospital Morgue in President Biya’s home region saturated with bodies abandoned for years

By M.K

The Kribi District Hospital mortuary has run out of space to accommodate corpses, as dozens of bodies abandoned by families have stacked up at the cold house.

Kribi is one of the most popular cities in the South Region, which is the home region of Cameroon’s President, Paul Biya, who has been in power for over four decades.

According to hospital authorities, there are corpses that have been at the mortuary for more than a year, without anyone to claim them for burial.

Most of the unclaimed bodies belong to road accident victims, some of whom have yet to be identified by relatives.

The accumulation of the bodies has become a major concern for the hospital staff, who have now run out of space to store fresh bodies despite their efforts to mitigate the situation.

Hospital personnel told the Mutation Newspaper that “…the situation has caused us huge losses, especially in terms of finance. If you know how much it costs to keep a corpse for just a day at the morgue, then you can imagine how much has been lost.”

Municipal authorities have been informed of the situation by the Hospital management, and plans have already begun for the abandoned remains to be buried by the council.
