Human organ trafficking scandal rocks the Ngaoundéré Regional Hospital, Governor Petitioned in Letter.

The integrity of Cameroon’s health system has once more been put into question after another shocking hospital scandal in Ngaoundéré, Adamawa region, Cameroon.

The Ngoundéré Regional Hospital is at the heart of the controversy, after the family of deceased Rougayatou Goni, 23, accused the government hospital of deliberately killing their daughter, and removing her internal organs.

Relatives of the deceased have petitioned the Governor of the Adamawa region, Kildadi Taguieke Boukar in a letter, with exclusive details of the whole affair from when Rougayatou Goni was admitted, to her demise.

In the letter, it is revealed that Rougayatou was admitted to the emergency unit on May 09, 2023, after a physical altercation that turned out badly for her.

As tests were being carried out, the letter says “…a portion of skin was cut off from her arm, and another cut made on her ear, which they pressed hard till it oozed with blood. When we asked for an explanation, we were not given any.”

It was not later than the next day, May 10, 2023, that she started facing respiratory difficulties. “…a few moments after that, we were informed that she had passed away and were asked to vacate the room so that it could be disinfected.,” the letter further revealed.

The family of the deceased was later on barred from having access to the corpse, which they were told had been kept at the mortuary.

All efforts to recuperate the body proved futile. “…the mortuary attendant said we could only have the body if we came with a law enforcement officer,” the family explained.

On May 12, 2023, the body was finally released, tightly wrapped in a white cloth for burial. After unwrapping the corpse, a gaping hole was discovered on her left side, indicating that her vital organs had been removed at the hospital without the family’s knowledge.

“…we demand that an explanation for this horrendous action be made as soon as possible… Justice must be served so as to appease the family,” the letter demanded.

For now, the management of the Ngoundéré Regional Hospital has been silent in light of this very serious allegation. Relatives of the late Rougayatou Goni are convinced the death of their daughter was premeditated, and have accused the hospital of being responsible.
