Hundreds of Cameroonians go ‘missing’ in Atlantic Ocean after being chased out of Equatorial Guinea

By David Atangana

At least 200 Cameroonians chased out of Equatorial Guinea have gone missing in the Atlantic ocean, MMI has gathered.

The incident was reported Tuesday October 25, 2022.

They were reportedly bundled and forced into an inflatable boat with no destination.

A viral video obtained by MMI shows a boat in the middle of the ocean, heavily loaded with Cameroonians destined for nowhere, and at the verge of capsizing.

Those onboard are heard crying for help as the boat ‘dances’ seemingly with no captain.

It is not known what became of them thereafter as a a majority of those onboard are unreachable, according to family members and friends.

“Those are Cameroonians in the sea chased out of Equatorial Guinea. We do not know their whereabouts” a source knowledgeable about the situation told MMI.

“Let our navy go into the sea and rescue our brothers and sisters. They mostly refugees arrested and repartriated”, our source in Bota, an Equatoguinean added.

He further said “the boat has taken them right into the sea. The videos making rounds have been sent by them saying that they don’t know where they are”

The same fate is meted on citizens from other countries caught up in the massive deportation.

GENESIS OF THE ISSUE

On Monday October 17, 2022, the Cameroon Ambassador to Equatorial signed a release inviting all Cameroonian nationals who have registered at his office to voluntarily return and wish to remain on the Equatoguinean territory to come and deposit at the embassy photocopies of their passports, and/or their old resident cards no later than Wednesday 19 October 2022.

According to Ambassador Desire Jean Claude Owono Mengue, “these documents will be transmitted to the Equatguinean Ministry of Foreign affairs and Cooperation, which urgently requests them for the regularisation of their situation.”

On Thursday October 20, 2022 MMI info gathered that several Cameroonians were arrested.

Latest updates now indicates that those arrested are being bundled forced out of the country through the Atlantic ocean with no destination.

It is not the first time Cameroonians are being humiliated and chased out of the neighboring country.
