Four goals to one is the final score that has given the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon a comfortable seven-point lead in their group ahead of the 2021 AFCON billed for Cameroon in January 2022.
In their day three outing for the AFCON qualifiers, the Cameroonian side showcased great football talents against Mozambique.
Playing at the renovated Reunification Stadium in Douala Thursday, November 12, 2020, the boys of coach Antonio Conceicao dominated the match from the start to finish scoring four goals while Mozambique scored one.
Captain of the Lions for the day, Vincent Aboubakar scored twice during the first half while Clinton Njie and Zambo Anguisa scored one goal each during the second half to put Cameroon on top of the group.
Despite the victory, football analysts say Cameroon’s defense line needs to be reinforced to better withstand more powerful teams.
The match in Douala Thursday, November 12th, 2020 comes 22 years after Cameroon’s national football team played an international match at the Reunification Stadium in Douala.
Though the match was not open to spectators as part of COVID-19 stifling measures, some Cameroonians who watched the match on television have expressed satisfaction with the performance of the national team.
To those in Douala, the joy is overwhelming to see the lions play in the economic capital after over two decades.
There is little time for Cameroon to celebrate their victory as the team travels to Mozambique to play an away leg match next Monday, November 16.
