Inhabitants of Dibamba skeptical of government’s “good intentions”

Some inhabitants of Dibamba village at the east entrance to Douala in the Littoral Region of Cameroon fear that the government will not compensate them for houses to be demolished in the area for the construction of a second bridge over the Dibamba River.

“Let the state pay compensation before demolition to permit us resettle elsewhere,” a local of the village has stated upon learning that the demolition of some houses is inevitable.

According to the government, some houses and business structures will be demolished to ensure the development projects takeoff.

The construction of the the second bridge according to the state will cost 88.8 billion francs cfa. The project is part of the total rehabilitation of the east entrance to Douala and possibly reduce traffic that has slowed business activities over the years.
