Bezos and Sánchez
VENICE, ITALY — Amazon founder and billionaire entrepreneur Jeff Bezos has remarried. The world’s third-richest man, with a staggering net worth of $224.6 billion, tied the knot with longtime partner, journalist and author Lauren Sánchez, in a private ceremony that began in Venice, Italy.
The wedding festivities, expected to span three days, began earlier this week in Venice. Sources close to the couple reveal that the event remains extremely private, featuring high-profile guests and a tightly guarded venue.
However, local protests reportedly disrupted the initial wedding location. On Tuesday, demonstrators blocked access to the original venue, demanding Bezos pay more taxes for Amazon’s business operations in Italy. Consequently, the location underwent a last-minute change.
Following his highly publicized 2019 divorce from MacKenzie Scott, which cost him $38 billion and made her one of the wealthiest women in the world, Bezos is not leaving anything to chance this time.
According to insider sources, the billionaire has signed what is being described as a “first-of-its-kind prenuptial agreement.” The contract reportedly ensures that all of Bezos’ assets—including Amazon, The Washington Post, and space exploration company Blue Origin—remain protected in the event of another divorce.
“A prenuptial agreement of this scale has never been seen before,” said one legal expert familiar with the document. “It essentially locks down Jeff Bezos’ empire.”
Bezos’ decision to remarry sets him apart from many of his ultra-wealthy peers. Bill Gates, who divorced Melinda French Gates in 2021, has not remarried. Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, remains single after multiple divorces, and Elon Musk, has yet to walk down the aisle again after multiple separations.
“Jeff is letting his heart love again, but he’s also making sure his finances don’t suffer a repeat blow,” said a source close to the couple.
Lauren Sánchez, a former news anchor and helicopter pilot, has been a visible partner at Bezos’ side since their relationship became public in 2019. The couple frequently travels together, attends red carpet events, and co-manages philanthropic efforts through the Bezos Earth Fund.
Bezos, 60, and Sánchez, 54, have expressed their desire to “build a future together focused on love, philanthropy, and exploration,” according to a recent interview Sánchez gave to WSJ Magazine.
