Journalists Visit Theirs At Yaoundé-Kondengui Prison

A delegation of the Cameroon Journalist Trade Union, CJTU-Centre, led by its president, Thiery Eba, and National Bureau, represented by its national treasurer, Monique Ngo Mayag, paid a visit to the Yaoundé Central Prison on Thursday December 6 to commune and assist some detainees.

The detainees included Awa Thomas Junior, Mancho Bibixy, Michel Biem Tong and Micheal Dopass.

The delegation handed over to the detainees, the balance of the health assistance operation that had been collected for Awa Thomas. That is a sum of 250, 000 Fcfa.

The delegation also registered the grievances of other detainees, who agreed to come to meet them. It appears that Micheal Dopass and Michel Biem Tong (didn’t meet them), urgently need beddings and better legal counsel. Dopass was forced to break with his lawyer who asked him to plead guilty.

To this end, the national bureau congratulates CJTU Centre, for its constant visit to our fellow brothers incarcerated, and live in difficult conditions. Meantime, we are working to quickly find solutions to grievances brought by our colleagues and detainees.

The Committee to Protect Journalists, CPJ has called for their immediate and unconditional release.
