Kah Walla-led Movement urges Cameroonians To Protest Arbitrary, illegal Arrests in Cameroon

Following increasing international and national reports on gross human rights violations by the Government of Cameroon, the “Stand Up” For Cameroon movement has launched a call on Cameroonians to take a stand against arbitrary and illegal arrests across the country.

In a declaration issued July 24th from Douala, Stand Up For Cameroon say arbitrary and illegal arrests have continued to get worst in Cameroon, with three categories of persons languishing in jails after being arbitrarily and illegally arrested.

Stand up for Cameroon regrets that Cameroonians have been silent over the arbitrary and illegal arrests, and detention of more than 1000 men and women from the North West and South West regions. Revealing that “dozens have been held in secret detention for months without an access to visit, light, a doctor and the assistance of a lawyer, provided for in the preamble of the code of criminal procedures”.

The movement said with regrets that some non violent activists like Mancho Bibixy, Ngalim Felix and Penn Terence have been arrested, tried and sentenced to terms more than 10years, with Cameroonians still silent.

With regards to illegal and arbitrary arrests of the post 2018 presidential election, stand up for Cameroon, reiterated that political opinions and political actions are inherent right, hence no one should be arrested for speaking out politically.

“hundred of young men and women have been illegally arrested as forces of law and order seek to push back the Terrorist group” said the movement.

The movement cited the the emblematic RFI journalist, Ahmed Aba, who spent 29 months in Prison before being released and the horrific murder of two women and their children by state security Forces.

Faced With this increasing gross rights violations from a regime, not willing to give up, Stand Up for Cameroon calls on Cameroonians joint #FridayInBlack to demand the release of Cameroonians illegally arrested in the anglophone crisis, the fight against Boko Haram and in the post-electoral crisis.
