Kamto blasts 63 Cameroonian MPs for letter to US Congress

The President of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement (CRM), Prof. Maurice Kamto has joined another political figure, Honorable Michel Nitcheu in dissing the 63 Cameroonian Parliamentarians for a correspondence they addressed to the American Congress in response to a letter which the latter addressed to U.S President about granting Cameroonian Immigrants Temporary Protected Status (TPS) due to the political and social instability in the country.

The CRM president has expressed his exasperation at the Cameroonian MPs’ lack of concern for the plight of youths in Cameroon.

“Indeed, what can we say about representatives of the people who, not satisfied with doing nothing to stop the continuous deterioration of the standard of living of the population and doing everything possible to kill all hope for the youth, notably by throwing the latter into exile, are pushing their cynicism to the limit by demanding the repatriation to Cameroon of some of our compatriots, and consequently that they be denied humanitarian protection,” he said.

Maurice Kamto equally expressed dismay at the fact that the MPs in question had never thought it necessary to initiate such a movement to address the plight of the Anglophones in the North West and the South West Regions, but could galvanize such support to prevent distraught Cameroonians from receiving humanitarian aid from the United States, but rather advocating for their repatriation to Cameroon.

He also aimed a slight dig at Hon. Joshua Osih and some SDF Parliamentarians who signed the correspondence, questioning why such support was never shown to Him when he courageously spoke at Parliament.

“We did not see such solidarity around their colleague, the Honorable Joseph Wirba, when he courageously spoke out on the Anglophone question at the tribune of the National Assembly a few years ago. For the Cameroonian parliamentarians concerned, the civil war in the North-West and South-West Regions does not exist, unless in the opinions of these MPs, these regions are no longer part of Cameroon,” Kamto said.

In assessment, Kamto Maurice has been categorical on the fact that the said MPs’ actions were not done for the good of Cameroonians, but that their actions might go a long way to widen the gap between the Cameroonians and their leaders.

He notes however that the CRM party is geared toward sustaining initiatives that seek to protect the interest of Cameroonians, taking to account their plight and aspirations.
