Kidnapped Fundong students released

A search for seven kids kidnapped in Fundong, Boyo Division in the North West region of Cameroon has yielded fruits.

The children were on their way to school this morning when gunmen believed to be separatist fighters intercepted and took them away into the bush.

In a bid to find them, the forces of law and order are said to have rounded up bike riders in the area and forced them to partake in the search.

“The military asked bike riders to find them. Now all commercial bike riders are in the bush,” a source tells Mimi Mefo Info.

Moments later, the kids were found with none hurt. Information on the abductors as well as their motive and the rescue operation however remain sketchy.

Today’s kidnap in Fundong came after 11 teachers of a Presbyterian School in Kumbo, still in the North West region, were kidnapped and are yet to be found.

The Fundong kidnap also preceded an attack on a school in Limbe, one of the most peaceful towns in the troubled Anglophone regions of the country.

After stripping teachers and students, they asked them to run home naked before setting their belongings and part of the school ablaze.

The recent wave of events that follow the Kumba school massacre has raised worries over what the days ahead hold.

With schools being used as a weapon, government’s failed promise to protect students has left innocent kids at the mercy of gunmen in the four-year-long war.
