Kidnapped Mbengwi mayor freed after spending a month in captivity

Mayor Ndansah Kennedy of Mbengwi council of the Momo Division in the North West region of Cameroon has spent his first night home, after one month in captivity.

He arrived his Mbengwi residence at 7pm on Monday march 30, 2020 after being released by his kidnappers according to local sources.

Ndansah Kennedy was kidnapped on February 29th 2020, shortly after the February 9th 2020 highly boycotted twin elections in Cameroon.

After winning the Mbengwi council under the Ticket of the CPDM party, he was picked up few days later by unknown armed men to an undisclosed location, where he would be held for 30 days incommunicado.

The exact circumstances that lead to his release remains unknown, but many were taken aback following his kidnap, coming shortly after his election.
His kidnap by suspected separatist fighters was linked to his political involvement.

In addition to calling for a boycott of the elections, separatist fighters had warned anglophone politicians against partaking in the process.
