A wall of the Kondengui Maximum Security prison in Cameroon’s Capital Yaounde has collapsed with most high profile prisoners unreachable.
However other detainees have reportedly been bundled and locked up in a safe section of the detention facility.
The incident occurred Sunday May 7,2023 after heavy downpours.
Sources say the collapsed wall stretches about 40 metres long.
“The rain started drizzling at 10:40am and at 10:46am, we heard what sounded like a big bang.” a prison source told MMI adding that, “The earth and walls shock inside the prison and when we looked outside, it was a prison with no perimeter wall- a wall that measured 7 Meters high”
Reports say the incident affected the VIP section of the facility with most high profile prisoners missing.
“At the moment we are sharing this news, the whereabouts of the high profile detainees detained nearer the collapsed wall is not known.” the source added.
Prison authorities are yet to make a statement.
