Kribi court suicide: Family demands justice for 17-year-old girl

The family of Soppy Nelly Jordanne, a 17-year-old young girl who committed suicide in a court in kribi, South Region of Cameroon is demanding justice.

The teenager on January 11, 2023, jumped from the uppermost floor of a courthouse to the ground to commit the heinous act.

According to a relative of the deceased, the young girl: “… was arrested because the woman she was working for as house help accused her of stealing her jewelries.”

Despite pleading innocent, the 17-year-old girl was kept behind bars for nine days before she resorted to terminating her life.

According to an eyewitness, not only was she detailed but, “Another minor who came in as defense witness was also arrested and locked up.”

Our source further narrated, “This girl had pleaded to no avail she was innocent. After spending nine days behind bars she was taken before the examining magistrate whose office is on a story building where she still insisted she was innocent.”

After leaving the office of the magistrate, reports say, she decided to jump down the story building, and died on the spot.

“I just think more light should be thrown on this matter maybe justice can be done for this little girl who lost her life because of a wicked woman,” said our source adding that, “How come about that a girl of less than 18 yrs was working for her? Is this not child abuse? How come about a minor is locked up for nine days? Is there no law in our country?”

The family of the young however has been calling on the government to administer justice in the matter which has plunged them into a state of despair.
